The guy sitting next to me in my favorite seminar, the Cabinet of Natural History, asked a question today. I think I was the only one in the whole seminar who caught the pun in his question, which makes me either really perceptive or really immature... but whatever it says about me, it means that I was so distracted trying not to guffaw that I missed the guy's actual question!
[insert British accent]
"In the 1840s, the Geological Society of London meetings were big parties, with dinners and music and loads of people - they were quite raucous affairs."
RAUCOUS?! ROCK-US?!?! The Geological Society?!?! You can't PLAN a pun that good...
I hope it's okay to not take academia and the history of science too seriously.
